A Dental Therapist is a dental care professional who can provide the same duties as a Dental Hygienist but has also received additional training to perform more advanced and complex procedures. The skills of a Dental Therapist may be used to free up the Dentists time so patients may be seen sooner.
What can a Dental Therapist do?
A Dental Therapist can perform a wide range of procedures, including;

- Examinations
- Taking dental x-rays
- Giving injections
- Providing oral health education
- Cosmetic adult fillings
- Treating children including filling teeth and extracting baby teeth
- Treating gum disease
- Taking impressions for mouth guards, dentures etc;
- Teeth whitening
Who can be seen by a Dental Therapist?
Dental Therapists have received extensive training, so they are able to provide care for all patients including the very young, elderly, special needs and very anxious patients.
