Does smoking damage your teeth ?

Smoking stains the teeth but the most damaging effect is on the gums and bone supporting the teeth. Smoking is a major factor in gum disease leading to early loss of teeth. Products in cigarette smoke decrease the blood supply to the gums and so the early signs of gum disease, for example, bleeding on brushing are not spotted. Stopping smoking significantly improves the long term prognosis of gum treatment and implant treatment.
