After an extraction it is important to keep the area clean until the clot has had chance to form, therefore
- No smoking
- No alcohol for 24 hours
- No hot drinks
- No exercise for 24 hours.
- Soft diet
Exercise, alcohol and hot drinks increase the risk of post operative bleeding.
It is not unusual to get some post operative bleeding from the socket. If this happens bite together on a piece of clean gauze to apply pressure to the socket. Very small volumes of blood can make your saliva look pink, this is nothing to worry about.
If the area is still bleeding after 20 minutes contact the practice.
